It was a disappointing 2014 season for Bruce Harbach's bunch after a 4-6 record kept the Crusaders from making the playoffs. In 2015, Lancaster Catholic is hoping to bounce back and become more consistent.

“We’re trying to emphasize that we have to cut down on turnovers and penalties,” head coach Bruce Harbach said. “There were plenty of times when we were moving the ball and the drive would end on a bad turnover or a stupid penalty. We can’t have that this year.”

The Crusaders went through a QB carousel during the 2014 season with then-sophomores Jordan Scott and Bryan Downey. Downey played the majority down the stretch of the season and could have the inside track headed into 2015.

Catholic will also have to replace workhorse tailback Nassir Weaver in the backfield this year. Weaver rushed for more than 1,200 yards in 2014.

The good news for the Crusaders is that closing the gap isn't insurmountable. They only averaged 24.5 points per game but gave up just 28.3 points per game.

“If we stay healthy, we’ll be competitive,” Harbach said. “The kids that we have are football players and they’re getting a lot of work and we’ve worked them hard in the offseason. It’s so much smoother now and they are ready.”

This is most likely Catholic's last year in Section Two -- due to projected enrollment numbers, it's possible the Crusaders will move down to Section Three -- so it's the final crack at some of the heavyweights in the section
