After going 0-10 in 2014, the Bears are hoping that the 2015 will be the start of a new era in Elizabethtown football.

The new era starts with new head coach Bill McDonald, a former offensive coordinator at Lancaster Catholic who was on the staff for two PIAA title teams.

“I think the offense is so varied that we can tailor it to our strengths,” McDonald said. “There’s talent at Etown. We got 54 kids on the roster, I’d like to get some more but I thought we could play with the 54 that we have. I like the attitude. We’ve done some good things in summertime, different camps we’ve gone to.”

The Bears have a big gap to close. They allowed 37.1 points per game while only scoring 12.4.

Some good news for the Bears: They return dual-threat quarterback Kameron Burkholder and their leading receiver from last year, Cole Epler.

"It’s definitely a lot different than last year," Epler said. "It takes a little bit to get used to but I think it’s working well.”

In McDonald's first year as head coach, the E-Town faithful are hoping 2015 is the year that the Bears get out of the Section Two basement and start scratching toward contention.

“I think we have experience, we have a lot of young guys actually, but I think we can handle ourselves pretty well," senior lineman John Bender said. "Of course new players, new offense, it is kind of nice because it’s easier to …. I’d say for the offensive line we have this bond, we’re really cohesive with each other. We’re not afraid to …. And I think it’s one of the biggest lines I’ve played on, and we’re not only big but athletic as well.”
